Turner scores twice to help GW to first A-10 win of 2024
WASHINGTON - The George Washington University men's soccer team (2-8-2, 1-3-1 A-10) picked up its first A-10 win of 2024, beating Saint Joseph's (2-10-1, 0-5-0 A-10) by a final of 2-0 at the GW Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. Graduate midfielder Will Turner scored both goals while sophomore goalkeeper Tom Macauley kept the Hawks quiet to lead GW to the full three points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
15TH MINUTE: Sean Vaghedi sent in a long cross and connected with Turner who volleyed a shot past the Hawks' goalkeeper to open the scoring.
23RD MINUTE: A flurry of shots and a moment of chaos in the SJU box led to a Jaden Dubon cross, which found Turner again who headed the ball home for his second goal of the match to double GW's lead.
NOTEWORTHY

Turner is the first Revolutionary to record a brace (two goals) this season, and he has accounted for each of the last three GW goals.

Macauley kept a clean sheet for the second-consecutive match, making one save on 13 shots faced.

Shots were even at 13-13, but GW led 5-1 in shots on goal.

GW had five field players go the full 90 minutes: Turner, Roee Tenne, Nico Medina, Colin Prendergast and Dan Dobrin.

First-year Louis Crofts led all players in shots (5), while Turner paced both teams in shots on goal (3).

Turner jumped into the team lead in points (8) this season with his second and third goals to accompany his two assists.

The only yellow card of the match was issued to Saint Joseph's Bart Kooistra in the 62nd minute.

The Revolutionaries return to the field on Tuesday when they travel to Newark, Del., for the final non-conference match of the season. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be streamed on FLOFC.
