WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's and women's swimming and diving teams will look to start 2024 in the fast lane as they welcome Georgetown for a two-day dual meet and Senior Day at the Smith Center. The meet begins on Friday with diving at 7 p.m. and resumes on Saturday with swimming at 11 a.m., following a Senior Day and banner raising ceremony. Live results can be found on divemeets.com and in the Meet Mobile app.
SENIOR DAY
From impactful one-year transfers to GW legends who have stamped their names all over the Buff & Blue and A-10 record books, GW swimming and diving is excited to recognize and honor its nine graduating seniors and graduate students with a Senior Day ceremony ahead of Saturday's portion of the meet.
The Revolutionaries will honor: Yulia Groysman, Dylan Koo, Misha Lyubavskiy, Djurdje Matic, Karol Mlynarczyk, Marlee Rickert, Barbara Schaal, Ethan Tulenko and Olivia Tighe for their contributions to the GW swimming and diving program and community.
SO WE MEET AGAIN, HOYAS
The Revolutionaries are looking for the program's seventh-consecutive sweep of Georgetown this weekend, a win streak that started back in the 2016-17 season. GW's women's team is riding a six-meet win streak over the Hoyas, while the men's team has won seven straight in the matchup. GW defeated Georgetown last season, 133-108 (men's) and 143-92 (women's), and set five McCarthy Pool (Georgetown) records along the way.
Friday and Saturday's meet at the Smith Center will feature both men's 2023 conference champions from the Atlantic 10 and Big East. Georgetown had a successful run at the 2023 Big East Championships; its men's team held off Xavier to win the Big East title for the second year in a row and second time in program history, while its women's team sat near the top and finished in third.
Georgetown returns 45 student-athletes from the 2022-23 season - 21 on the women's team and 24 on the men's team - and they are led by head coach Jack Leavitt, who is in his eighth season at the helm of Georgetown swimming and diving.
LOOKING AHEAD
After this weekend, just two meets remain in the regular season before GW takes on the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Revolutionaries will compete in their final dual meet of the year next Saturday, Jan. 27 at Yale, before they complete final preparations at the Cavalier Invitational, hosted by UVA on Feb. 9-11.
