DAYTON, Ohio – The George Washington women's basketball team slipped into an early first quarter deficit and couldn't rebound, falling to the Flyers, 71-53, on Wednesday night.
Neither team got out to a stellar offensive start, struggling to find consistency in the early minutes. GW grabbed a two-point lead via a 3-pointer from sophomore Nya Robertson, but that would be the final advantage for the Revolutionaries all night. Robertson was a bright spot for the Buff & Blue, continuing her solid stretch of offensive play and finishing with a game-high 22 points. After Dayton recaptured the lead at 9-8, the Flyers didn't look back. Dayton used an 11-4 run to build a 20-12 advantage after the first, and outscored GW 20-13 in the second period to hold a commanding 40-25 lead at the break.
Dayton's timely shot making and aggressiveness on the boards allowed the Flyers to maintain a double-digit lead for the entire second half. The Buff & Blue made things interesting midway through the third, cutting the Flyer lead to 11 via a 3-pointer from graduate Nya Lok, but that's the closest GW would get the rest of the night.
Dayton was paced by Ivy Wolf who poured in a team-high 16 points and dished out a game-high eight assists. Mariah Perez finished with a double-double, notching 15 points and 13 rebounds. Along with Robertson, GW also got offensive production from graduate Essence Brown who finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Lok tallied eight points for the Revolutionaries, while first-year Monica Marsh finished with six points. The Buff & Blue return home for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Saint Louis inside the Smith Center. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m., with live coverage carried on Monumental Sports Network.
