Men’s Soccer Defeats Iona, 1-0, Behind Hissrich’s Third Goal of the Year

WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer (1-0-2, 0-0-0 A-10) picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Iona (1-2-0, 0-0-0 MAAC), 1-0, in front of a full house at the GW Soccer Field. Ben Hissrich was the hero for the Revolutionaries in the 79th minute as he netted the match's only goal, and Duncan Wegner didn't shy away from his first start of 2023, stopping all 10 Iona shots on goal for his first career clean sheet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
79th Minute: With just over 10 minutes remaining in the match, Louis Saville sent a cross into the box, and after a deflection off an Iona defender, the ball found its way to Hissrich, who hit a one-timed volley past the Gaels' goalkeeper and into the top-left corner of the net.
