Colonials set new program record for made 3-pointers in a season
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – George Washington women's basketball hung around for four quarters, but simply had no answer for the scorching Saint Louis offense in its 76-64 loss to the Billikens on Saturday night.
SLU shot an impressive 52 percent from the field and buried seven of its 16 3-point attempts. Saint Louis was also economical with their shot selection, firing just 54 field goal attempts to George Washington's 73.
The Billikens started the game strong, scoring on each of their first three possessions to take an early 6-0 lead. GDUB would answer back with a 3-pointer, its record breaking 206th of the 2022-23 campaign, but SLU kept its attack going and pushed the lead to 14-5. Despite the deficit, the Colonials showed a resiliency that would be present all night and used a 6-0 run to end the opening 10 minutes to be down only 20-17.
GW continued its attack to open the second stanza, going on an 8-2 run to overtake SLU and take a 26-22 lead. Saint Louis wouldn't go away though and used their own 15-8 run to end the half with a 37-34 lead.
After halftime, the Billikens continued their clutch shooting, and while GW was able to keep within arm's length, the Colonials never got closer than four and ultimately fell to their Atlantic 10 rivals.
As a team, GDUB buried eight triples to push its new program record to 213 made 3-pointers this year. However, it was the inability to capitalize on more of its 40 downtown shot attempts that did the Colonials in.
Individually, Nya Robertson led all GW scorers with 18 points. She has now scored in double figures in seven-straight games. Nya Lok (17 points) and Asjah Inniss (12 points) also had double-digit scoring nights on Saturday.
The Colonials will return to the court on Saturday, February 18th to face Loyola Chicago. It will be Senior Day at the Charles E. Smith Center and GDUB will honor its graduating seniors with a pregame ceremony before tip-off.
