The Colonials will honor seven players against the Ramblers on Saturday afternoon
WASHINGTON – Following a week layoff, George Washington women's basketball will return to the court on Saturday when it welcomes Loyola Chicago to the Charles E. Smith Center for Senior Day. Tip-off between the Colonials and the Ramblers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. with live coverage available regionally on NBC Sports Washington and via streaming on ESPN+.
THANK YOU SENIORS
Prior to Saturday's tip-off, GDUB will honor seven members of its squad as part of its annual Senior Day celebration at the Smith Center. Jayla Thornton, Mia Lakstigala, Sheslanie Laureano, Nya Lok, Faith Blethen, Essence Brown and Mayowa Taiwo will all be honored for their contributions to the program with an on-court ceremony before the game.
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats at least 15 minutes prior to tip-off to watch Saturday's festivities.
THE HOME STRETCH
Saturday will begin the final stretch run for GW women's basketball. Beginning with the Ramblers, GW will play three games in seven days to close out the 2022-23 regular season. Following Loyola Chicago, GW will host Davidson at the Smith Center for its home finale on Wednesday, Feb. 22, then the Colonials will wrap up the regular season on Feb. 25 at UMass.
Entering this weekend's action, GW sits at fourth overall in the conference standings, which would give them a top-four seed and a double-bye in the Atlantic 10 Championship. This year's A-10 Championship begins on March 1st in Wilmington, Del.
ENCORE FROM MAYOWA
In George Washington's first meeting this season against Atlantic 10 newcomer Loyola Chicago, Mayowa Taiwo put together one of the best performances of her career. The senior pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds, the most by a GW player since 2015. She also registered a first-half double-double and finished the game with 12 points.
This season, Taiwo has already set a new career-high with 259 rebounds. That number is not only a high-water mark for Taiwo, but it is currently the 15th best single season rebounding total by a player in program history. Should Taiwo reach the 300-rebounds mark, she will become the eighth-player all-time, and first since Jonquel Jones in 2015-16, to have at least 300 boards in a campaign.
SCOUTING LOYOLA CHICAGO
It has been a first season in the A-10 to forget for Loyola Chicago. The Ramblers enter Saturday's game in last place in the conference standings, and they have lost 12-straight games. Loyola Chicago's only conference win this year came in its A-10 opener at Saint Louis, where they beat the Billikens 60-47.
