Women’s Basketball Returns to Action with Road Bout at Towson

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team returns to action this Wednesday for a road battle with Towson. The Revolutionaries make the trip north for an 11 a.m. tip with coverage carried on FloHoops.
LAST TIME OUT
GW got back on track with a dominating 91-30 win over unaffiliated Cheyney last Thursday. The win moved GW to 3-0 on the season inside the Smith Center and snapped the team's four-game losing streak. The Revolutionaries were led by junior Maxine Engel who tallied a career-high 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. First-year Kamari Sims also registered a career-high on the day, putting in 15 points and pulling down eight boards. Sophomore Caia Loving notched a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double, while sophomore Natalia Sierra-Vargas recorded the first points of her collegiate career with four.

Wednesday's game will mark the 13th installment in the all-time series between GW and Towson. The first meeting came in 1978, a 69-61 win for the Buff & Blue. The Revolutionaries lead the all-time series 10-2 and have won eight of the last nine contests. The two teams haven't met since 2018, with GW winning the last matchup, 76-63.

Towson enters Wednesday's contest 5-1 following a 73-70 overtime win over Liberty on Monday night. The Tigers, who were chosen as the 19th-ranked program in the Preseason Mid-Major Poll, are off to a 5-1 start to the season for the third time in the past four years. Monday night's win over Liberty snapped the Flames' 16-game home winning streak and marked the Tigers fourth-straight victory. Head coach Laura Harper sits at the helm of the program and holds a record of 25-13 in two seasons with the Tigers. Harper holds a career record of 42-39 after spending two seasons at Coppin State before arriving at Towson prior to the 2022-23 season. Harper was an assistant at GW in 2016-17.
The Tigers are led by Kylie Kornegay-Lucas who averages 14.7 points per game on 32.6% shooting from the field. Kornegay-Lucas also averages a team-high 7.3 boards and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 91.7% from the free-throw line. Patricia Anumgba has also enjoyed a successful start to the season, averaging 14.3 points, 3.3 boards and 2.7 assists per contest. Anumgba is shooting 47.6% from the field through the team's first six games and also averages 2.2 steals per game.
