Men's Basketball Completes Non-Conference Play vs. UMES Saturday

WASHINGTON - GW returns to action for its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday vs. Maryland Eastern Shore at 4 p.m. Live coverage will be available on ESPN+.
JOHNSON MAKES HUGE INITIAL SPLASH
Garrett Johnson scored a career-high 23 points last Thursday vs. Alcorn State, tying a personal-best mark with five 3-pointers. Johnson is now second on the team in scoring at 13.7 ppg, which leads all A-10 rookies and ranks 16th nationally amongst first-years.
With his 6.3 rpg, Johnson is one of just three first-years nationally averaging at least 13.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg. He is one made 3-pointer shy of qualifying for the national leaderboard, where he would rank second among freshmen and second overall in the A-10 with his 42.6% accuracy from deep.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE DECEMBER MAKES
True freshmen Trey Autry and Jacoi Hutchinson have overcome some early season struggles to flourish in their roles this month. James Bishop IV scored 18 of his 20 points vs. Alcorn State in the second half, adding in five assists for his fifth game of 20+ points and 4+ assists this season. Bishop is third in the country with five games of 20+ points and 4+ assists after ranking second last year with 16 such games.

Maryland Eastern Shore is 2-8 on the campaign and has dropped six-straight games following a 75-51 loss at VCU last Thursday. The Hawks' lone Division I victory this season came at home vs. Penn in overtime, 83-80, on Nov. 18.
Troy Hupstead is the lone Hawk averaging double figures at 11.3 ppg and also paces the team with 8.3 rpg. He scored seven points in 13 minutes off the bench vs. GW last year. Hupstead leads the MEAC in rebounding and is also tops in the conference with three double-doubles. Chace Davis makes 2.0 3-pointers per game at a 32% rate and scored 12 points in last season's meeting.
