Women’s Indoor Track Sets Four Program Records, Opens Season at Youree Spence-Garcia Meet

OCEAN BREEZE, N.Y. – The George Washington women's indoor track & field team opened the 2023-24 season with a solid showing at the Youree Spence-Garcia Meet. The Revolutionaries were paced by junior Olivia Syftestad who tallied gold in the 3000m run with a PR time of 10:04.95, while also setting four program records in the process.
Along with Syftestad, GW finished with four of the top five finishers in the 3000m. Sophomore Una Boylan tallied second with a PR time of 10:05.09, while first-year Julia Shanes finished third with a mark of 10:11.31 in her event debut. Rounding out the top five was first-year Lola Dinneen with a 10:22.59 in her event debut. Senior Catherine Ruffino also finished with a PR in the event, notching a 10:29.99 for seventh.
Senior Kirsten Long kicked-off her fourth collegiate season with a fourth-place finish in the 1000m. Long notched a time of 3:05.62, just over one second off her PR time of 3:04.16. Sophomore Rita Mazumder also put together a solid showing in the event, recording a 3:10.07 in her event debut.
Grad transfer Rachel Horowitz finished fifth in the 300m dash, recording a 39.94 and setting a new program record in her first event with the Buff & Blue. Horowitz also tallied sixth in the 60m with a time of 7.86, tying her PR and setting a new program record.
First-year Kamryn Holness also set a program record, tallying a 26.23 in the 200m for the title. Holness finished eighth in the event and broke the previous record by just under one second. Also recording a program record on the day was sophomore Alexia Massoud. Massoud recorded a 1:22.07 in her event debut to beat the previous record by over four seconds.
