Water Polo Holds On in OT Against Mount St. Mary’s, Narrowly Beaten by Bucknell

EMMITSBURG, M.D. - The George Washington water polo team went 1-1 in MAWPC matches on Saturday. The Buff and Blue dropped the opener against Bucknell, 8-6, before holding on in overtime in the nightcap, beating Mount St. Mary's 15-14.
Bucknell 8, GW 6
A three-goal run to start the game for Bucknell ended up making all the difference as the Bison, who received votes in the most recent CWPA rankings, held on to win 8-6, in Lewisburg, Pa.
After the Bison's quick start, goals from Andrija Sekulic and Kai De Orbeta cut the lead down to one after the first quarter. Bucknell went on to lead by two at halftime, which GW cut down to one by the end of the third quarter, but the lone goal scored in the fourth quarter belonged to the Bison as they completed the season sweeping over the Revolutionaries.
Viktor Jovanovic and De Orbeta each had a team-high two goals. Goalkeeper Luca Castorina was credited with nine saves.
GW 15, Mount St. Mary's 14 (OT)
The Revolutionaries got back on track in Emmitsburg, Md. when they took down Mount St. Mary's, 15-14, on Saturday evening in a game that required more than 32 minutes.
It was a back-and-forth game throughout, which saw nine ties in regulation. GW was down two goals early in the fourth quarter, but a five-goal fourth forced extra-time.
In OT, Sekulic pulled through when it mattered most and scored the game-winning goal.
Jovanovic, as he has many times this season, paced the Buff and Blue offense - he had five goals and drew three exclusions. Sekulic, after being quieted to one goal against Bucknell, posted four goals including the game-winner. Castorina had 13 saves and added two steals to his statline.

GW will head to the Harvard Invitational next weekend, where the Buff and Blue will face Brown (10:30 a.m.) and Iona (4:30 p.m.) in Providence, R.I., on Saturday, Oct. 14, before challenging Harvard (8:30 a.m.) and UC Merced (1:30 p.m.) in Cambridge, Mass., on Sunday, Oct. 15.
