Men’s Soccer Looks to Rebound at Home against Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team (2-6-3, 0-3-0 A-10) is entering a pivotal stretch of the A-10 schedule with two league matches at the GW Soccer Field this week. The Revolutionaries will face off against Saint Louis (4-3-2, 2-0-1 A-10) on Wednesday ahead of a bout with St. Bonaventure (4-4-2, 1-2-0 A-10) on Saturday. Both matches kick off at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
DOWN THE STRETCH
Five A-10 matches remain on the schedule for the Buff and Blue, who are still looking for their first conference points of the season. GW needs to finish as one of the top eight teams in the conference to make the A-10 Championship and are currently four points out of eighth place.
An important six A-10 points are on the line for the Revolutionaries this week, but standing in the way is Saint Louis, who is tied for first place with seven points, and St. Bonaventure, who is tied for 10th place with three points.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Saint Louis enters Wednesday's match in a tie with Duquesne for the top spot in the A-10, and the Billikens are unbeaten in its last five matches, which includes conference wins over Rhode Island and Fordham.
Forward CJ Cappola leads the Billikens with four goals this season and is tied for the top mark in the A-10 with three game-winning goals. Goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel has gotten five starts in net for Saint Louis and holds the second-best goals against average in the A-10 (.800 GAA).
GW, who trails the all-time series against the Billikens 3-7-1, will be looking for its first win against Saint Louis since the 2016 season.
St. Bonaventure is 2-2-1 in its last five games, most recently falling on the road at Dayton. The Bonnies will host UMass on Wednesday ahead of making the trip to the nation's capital over the weekend.
Midfielder/Forward Andres Javitt leads the Bonnies with 12 points this season (5 goals, 2 assists) - the 10th most points in the A-10. Goalkeeper Jules Derchert has 47 saves in eight games and has the second-best save percentage in the A-10 (.810 save %).
GW is 17-10-2 all-time against St. Bonaventure and are winners of each of the last four matches in the series.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following Saturday's match versus St. Bonaventure, GW will have a one-week break from play before making the trip to Pittsburgh to face Duquesne on Saturday, Oct. 14 (7 p.m.).
