Men’s Soccer Visits Duquesne on Saturday

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team (2-7-4, 0-4-1 A-10) is heading into league match No. 6 on Saturday evening when it takes on Duquesne (5-5-2, 2-2-1 A-10) on the road in Pittsburgh. Kickoff at Rooney Field is scheduled for 7 p.m., and coverage of the match can be found on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
The Revolutionaries earned their first point in the A-10 standings last Saturday with their 1-1 draw against St. Bonaventure. GW fell behind early in the match after St. Bonaventure struck in the 15th minute, but the Buff and Blue showed resilience and evened the match on Nacho Alastuey's third goal of the season, a penalty-kick conversion in the 27th minute.
The second half remained scoreless, but not for a lack of opportunities. GW fired 12 shots in the second half (19 total), and was the aggressor for most of the afternoon despite the 1-1 final scoreline.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Duquesne enters Saturday's match with seven conference points, sitting alone in the eighth and final postseason position. The Dukes are losers of three straight, falling at Davidson and St. Bonaventure (played as a non-conference match) and at home against George Mason.
Jayden Da heads the Dukes' attack this year with 15 points (6 goals, 3 assists), while Ask Ekeland follows closely behind with 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist). Zoltan Nagy has played every minute in net for the Dukes and has a 1.33 goals allowed average and .789 save percentage.
GW trails the all-time series against Duquesne, 9-13-1, and have lost three straight matches against the Dukes. GW's last victory against Duquesne came on Oct. 21, 2017 in a 1-0 win at the GW Soccer Field.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Buff and Blue return to the GW Soccer Field this Wednesday to take on Longwood in the final non-conference match of the year. Then, GW will have its final road test of the 2023 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 21 when it travels to Philadelphia to face La Salle.
