Dayton Tops Women’s Soccer on Alumni Day

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's soccer team fell in A-10 action to Dayton on Sunday afternoon. The Flyers tallied four goals in the second half to defeat the Buff & Blue, 4-1, on Alumni Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 48th Minute: After a scoreless first half, Dayton's Laney Huber tallied the first goal of the match to give the Flyers a 1-0 advantage. Assisting on the play was Alicia Donley.
- 72nd Minute: Dayton doubled its lead midway through the second half when Donley tallied her second goal of the season. Assisting on the play was Ella Raimondi.
- 72nd Minute: Immediately following the Flyers' score, junior Kelly Poole got GW on the scoreboard to cut Dayton's lead in half. Assisting on the play was senior Margaret Rabbitt. The goal was Poole's third of the season and her first in A-10 action.
- 86th Minute: Huber tallied her second goal of the day late in the match for Dayton, scoring off an assist from Madison Wilson. Huber now has five goals on the season.
- 90th Minute: Dayton put the finishing touches on the match in the closing seconds off a goal from Diana Benigno. The goal is Benigno's second of the year and came off an assist from Blain Noel.
NOTEWORTHY
- At halftime, all GW women's soccer alumni in attendance were honored at midfield.
- Dayton finished with 33 shots on the day, while the Buff & Blue tallied 10 total shots. The Flyers recorded 16 shots on goal, while GW finished with five.
- Dayton notched a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- The Revolutionaries committed 16 fouls on the day, while Dayton was whistled for eight fouls.
- Poole and first-year Addi Verdon were both issued yellow cards in the match, while Dayton's Wilson and Marlee Taylor also received one yellow card each.
- Poole tallied two shots on goal to pace GW's offense. First-year Kate McGrath, junior Alicia Window, and Rabbit all recorded one shot on goal as well for the Revolutionaries.
- Dayton's offense was led by Wilson who piled up seven total shots, putting five on frame.
- The Flyers' Batoul Reda played all 90 minutes in goal, tallying four total saves.
- Junior Ainsley Lumpe started in net for GW. She played 50 minutes and recorded four saves. Sophomore Grace Crowe played the remaining 40 minutes, recording seven saves.
- The loss drops GW to 3-7-3 on the year. The Revolutionaries are winless in their last eight matches. GW is 0-6-2 in that stretch.
