WASHINGTON – Fresh off a home victory on Sunday against VCU, George Washington women's basketball will hit the road for a game against Atlantic 10 newcomer Loyola Chicago. The meeting, which is the first-ever between the two programs, gets underway Wednesday at 12 p.m. with live coverage available nationally on NBC Sports Digital.
A-10 TRIPLE THREAT
Last time out against VCU, Mia Lakstigala, Nya Robertson, and Mayowa Taiwo all scored in double figures. The trio has had a knack for putting up double-digit performances this A-10 campaign, as all three are averaging double-digit points in conference play.
Through the first seven games of the Atlantic 10 season, Robertson has led the offensive charge with 14 points per game, followed by Lakstigala, who is averaging 13.6 a night, and Taiwo, whose scoring average sits at 10.3 points per game.
THE FIELD GOAL IS GOOD
In addition to her scoring numbers, Taiwo has been excellent at putting the ball through the hoop this year. Coming into Wednesday, the redshirt senior is shooting a scorching 61.8 percent from the floor in A-10 play, which is first in the conference. Overall, Taiwo is firing at a 53.4 percent clip, a number that is second-best in the A-10 and 44th best in the NCAA.
Currently, Taiwo is on pace to crush her career-high shooting percentage of 48.3, which was set during her rookie season at GW. Taiwo is also on pace to become the first Colonial to shoot over 50 percent in a season since Ali Brigham in 2019-20 (50.4 percent).
NEW FACES IN NEW PLACES
Wednesday's game against Loyola Chicago will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides. The Ramblers will be the fifth first-time opponent that GDUB will have faced this season, along with Wilmington (Del.), ETSU, Cal State Fullerton and Louisiana Tech.
Against first-time opponents this year, GW is 2-2 and has averaged 70.5 points. The team has also shot 43 percent from the floor and averaged 10.5 3-pointers across those four games.
SCOUTING LOYOLA CHICAGO
Loyola Chicago has gotten off to a rough start in its inaugural A-10 season. The Ramblers, who are 1-5 in conference play, began their first Atlantic 10 campaign with a 60-47 win at Saint Louis. However, they've since lost five straight and have been outscored by an average of 20.4 points in those losses.
Individually, Maya Chandler is the only Rambler who is averaging in double figures (10.5). Junior Sitori Tanin is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 4.7 boards.
