Robertson puts together second straight 20-point game
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Poor shooting in the second and third quarter, and an inability to contain La Salle's three-point attack doomed George Washington women's basketball, as they fell on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, 74-65.
In the opening quarter, it looked as though George Washington was going to put together another electric offensive performance. The Colonials hit seven shots in the opening frame, including four threes, and ended the opening 10 minutes up 18-12.
In the second quarter, GW began the frame with a three-point play to put them up 21-12, but that's when the Explorers took over. La Salle's offense began the comeback with relentless shooting, burying six threes and shooting 52 percent from the field. Meanwhile on the defensive end, La Salle held GDUB to just five shots on 17 attempts. When halftime arrived, La Salle had erased the nine-point deficit and led 38-30.
In the third quarter it was more of the same from La Salle's defense. The Explorers stumped the Buff & Blue, holding them to just four field goals and 14 points and took a 55-44 lead into the fourth.
In the final quarter, George Washington finally regained their offensive footing. The Colonials buried four threes and used a 9-0 run over the final two minutes to trim the deficit to as little as six, but La Salle withstood the late attack to wrap up the 74-65 victory.
In total, La Salle buried 12 3-pointers on Saturday afternoon and shot 42 percent from downtown, 12 points better than its season average.
Individually, Nya Robertson led all GW scorers with 20 points, while Mia Lakstigala scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year and second in as many games.
Up next, George Washington will take the court again in two days to face George Mason on Monday on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Tip-off from Fairfax, Va. is scheduled for 12:07 p.m. with live coverage available on CBS Sports Network.
