Colonials face first test this season against a ranked opponent
WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer (5-3-2, 1-1) returns to the GW Soccer Field to face conference opponent #24 Duquesne (6-1-2, 1-0-1). Kickoff on The Vern is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be aired live on ESPN+.
Last Time Out:
GW is coming off a 3-0 road win over James Madison University. After a scoreless first half, Elias Norris converted just 47 seconds into the second frame, which would be the eventual game-winner for the Buff and Blue. Defender Aaron Kronenberg built on Norris' goal, scoring his fourth goal of the season and continuing to lead GW defenders with eight points. Tom Cooklin wrapped up the scoring for GW with his third of the season.
Grand Goalkeeping:
GW goalkeeper Justin Grady has been a large part of GW's recipe for success. In his last four matches, Grady has three clean sheets and has gotten credit for two shutouts (played 70 minutes with 0 goals allowed against Howard). In GW's last match Grady stayed steady in net, thwarting all 19 JMU shots, including stopping a late penalty kick which preserved the shutout.
9-10-11:
The numbers of Oscar Haynes Brown, Tom Cooklin, and Elias Norris respectively. In points they sit in the same order: Oscar with 12, Tom with 11, and Elias with nine. The trio have been dangerous on the Colonial attack, combining for 12 goals and eight assists in GW's 10 matches.
The Dukes got off to a hot start this season, winning their first five matches and only giving up one goal in those games. Since then the Dukes have gone 1-1-2, having dropped their most recent match, 1-0, against Akron.
Duquesne shares the wealth on offense with no player having more than three goals this season. The Dukes' goalkeeper Domenic Nascimben has been impressive this season, only having allowed four goals all year with a 0.44 goals allowed average.
