Buff and Blue challenge Loyola Chicago on Saturday afternoon
WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer will play its first conference road match of the season, traveling to Illinois to face conference newcomer Loyola Chicago. Kickoff at the Loyola Soccer Park is set for 4 p.m. and will be aired live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:
GW is coming off a dominant 5-0 home victory over Howard. The Buff and Blue's rout of the Bison was GW's largest margin of victory since August 27, 2018 in a 6-0 win against American. Elias Norris scored in the 7th minute, and GW never looked back, scoring once more before halftime and converting three times in the second half. Goalkeepers Justin Grady and Richard Raupp combined for the clean sheet against Howard.
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE:
GW has not allowed a goal in the last 214 minutes of action, dating back to the second half against Delaware. In the span that stretches more than two matches, GW defenders have allowed only 10 shots on net. The shutout streak is the longest for the Buff and Blue since late in the 2017 season, when the Colonials went 239 minutes without letting up a goal over a four-match period.
LOOKING AT LOYOLA:
Loyola Chicago (4-1-2) is entering Saturday's match coming off of its first loss of the season, falling 2-1 against conference opponent Duquesne (6-0-1). Though no longer unbeaten, the Ramblers remain a perfect 4-0 at the Loyola Soccer Park, only having allowed two goals on its home turf. Billy Hency leads Loyola in scoring this season with nine points (3 goals, 3 assists).
