Mayowa Taiwo notches fourth double-double of the year against Wildcats
DAVIDSON, N.C.- George Washington women's basketball put together a strong opening 20 minutes, but for the second straight game the team's inability to hit threes and free throws did it in. GW shot 10 percent from three and 30 percent from the charity stripe in the second half, allowing Davidson to take home the 51-46 victory on Wednesday night.
In the opening 20 minutes, the Colonials hit 12 field goals, compared to just nine from Davidson, which added up to a slim 28-26 Buff & Blue lead at halftime. As has been the case for the Colonials of late, Mayowa Taiwo was a difference maker in the first half. The redshirt junior scored 10 points in the first 20 minutes, to go along with five boards, two steals and two assists.
The second half was a much different story for GW. With Davidson beginning to double-team Taiwo, the Colonials struggled to find offense. The Colonials shot just 3-of-12 from the field in the third quarter, and missed all three of their 3-point attempts. The fourth quarter featured more of the same, with GDUB going just 4-of-14 in the final frame, and 1-of-7 from downtown.
Taiwo ended the night with 15 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Kyara Frames (11 points) and Taylor Webster (10) also scored in double figures for the Buff & Blue.
George Washington will now look to end the regular season on a high note when it returns home on Saturday to celebrate Senior Day against La Salle. The Colonials will hold a ceremony to honor senior Maddie Loder, and graduate students Sierra Bell and Kyara Frames before the game. Tip-off against the Explorers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
