GW hosts UMass then travels to St. Bonaventure
WASHINGTON - This week, GW men's soccer (5-4-2, 1-2) will play its fourth and fifth A-10 matches of the season, hosting UMass on Wednesday (1 p.m.) and traveling to St. Bonaventure (4 p.m.) on Saturday. Both matches will be aired live on ESPN+.
GW is looking to pick up an important six A-10 points with only three conference matches remaining after this week. The Colonials are currently tied for seventh in the A-10, and need to remain in the top eight to make the A-10 tournament.
Last Time Out:
GW fell narrowly to #24 Duquesne, 2-1, this past Saturday at the GW Soccer Field. Colonial midfielder Carter Humm opened the scoring, but the Dukes answered twice and walked away with the points.
Piling Points:
Graduate midfielder/forward Oscar Haynes Brown and Senior midfielder/forward Tom Cooklin are even at a team-best 12 points. The GW attackers are tied for third in the A-10 in points and just two behind the league leader.
Scouting UMass:
The Minutemen enter Wednesday's match unbeaten (5-0-5, 0-0-3) but still looking for their first win in A-10 play. UMass has drawn its last five matches, including three A-10 tilts. With five goals and two assists, Alec Hughes has been UMass' top attacker. Hughes averages 3.40 shots per game which is well over a full shot more than the next Minuteman.
'Bout the Bonnies:
St. Bonaventure (3-6-1, 0-3) is coming off a 2-1 defeat against La Salle. St. Bonaventure, like the Minutemen, is looking for its first conference win of the season. The Bonnies will get an opportunity to do so on Wednesday (vs. Dayton) before hosting GW on Saturday. Matthew Wrobel leads the Bonnie attack with ten points (5 goals) this season.
