Buff and Blue travel to St. Bonaventure on Saturday
WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer (5-5-2, 1-3) fell to UMass (6-0-5, 1-0-3), 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon at home. UMass remains unbeaten this year, while GW fell in its second straight conference game.
Alec Hughes was the driving force behind the Minutemen attack, scoring two early goals and completing his hat trick later in the first half.
How It Happened:
6th Minute: Hughes opened the scoring off a pass from Nick Zielonka. The shot came from just outside the 18-yard box.
16th Minute: Hughes doubled the UMass advantage as he blocked Justin Grady's attempted clearance.
30th Minute: Elias Norris scored the lone GW goal, which brought the Colonials back within one goal. Norris bursted through a pair of UMass defenders and snuck the ball inside the right post for his fifth goal of the campaign.
35th Minute: Hughes completed his hat trick, converting off a rebound for his eighth goal this season.
48th Minute: Zielonka scored his fourth goal of the season, one-timing a headed pass from Andrew Ortiz.
