Tip-off between the Colonials and Patriots is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's basketball will look to bring home its first A-10 victory this weekend, when it begins the first leg of a four game road stretch at local rival George Mason. The latest chapter of the Revolutionary Rivalry will get underway at 3 p.m. on Saturday from EagleBank Arena, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
RUN AND SCORE:
Against Davidson, GW continued to show its ability to score on the fast break. The Colonials outscored the Wildcats 9-3 on fast break points, marking the fifth time in the last six games, and the 10th time this season, that GW has outscored its opponent on the run. So far this year, GW has outscored its opponent 115-90 on fast break points.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Following a December and early January that saw GW leave the friendly confines of D.C. just once, GW women's basketball will embark on its longest road stretch of the season over the next two weeks. In addition to Saturday's game at George Mason, the Buff & Blue will also make stops at St. Bonaventure (2/2), at VCU (2/6), and at Duquesne (2/9).
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS:
Much like GW, George Mason entered the 2021-22 season with a new coach at the helm of its program. The Patriots named long-time Bethune-Cookman head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis as program head in April. Coach Blair-Lewis' 13-year stint with the Wildcats ended with the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Through Blair-Lewis' first 18 games, the Patriots have experienced some huge wins, including a 75-71 home upset of SEC power Florida. However, the Patriots' recent stretch of games has been tough. The team has lost nine straight games and is still looking for its first A-10 win this year.
HISTORY AGAINST GEORGE MASON
Saturday will mark the 40th meeting between GW and its rivals from Fairfax, VA. While Mason only joined the A-10 in 2013, the two sides have met head-to-head since 1976. Currently, GW owns a 28-11 career record against the Patriots, including an impressive 16-3 record against George Mason since they entered the conference.
Last season, GW met up with the Patriots three times, bringing home the victory in every single contest. In their final match-up last year, the two sides met in round one of the A-10 Championship. In the game, three GW scorers reached double-digits, including Mayowa Taiwo, who scored a team-high 17 points in the 62-56 victory.
