Buff & Blue welcome Flames for 2 p.m. start
GW men's soccer returns to the Mount Vernon Campus on Tuesday to host Liberty in a 2 p.m. kickoff. The action will be broadcast via ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT: At 1-1-1, GW is coming off its first loss of the season, a 2-0 setback at Columbia on Friday. After the teams played a scoreless opening half, the Lions seized control with two goals in the first 3:33 out of the halftime break.
HOME SWEET HOME: After its season-opening win over VMI, GW is unbeaten in its last seven home contests, dating back to the 2019 season.
The Buff and Blue went 3-0-1 at The Vern during the spring season and also won their last two home contests in 2019. They have outscored their opponents 12-2 with five shutouts during that span.
HISTORY WATCH: With his two goals vs. VMI, Oscar Haynes Brown now has 24 career scores, leaving him three away from tying Orville Reynolds ('84-87), Kenny Emson ('85-88) and Marcelo Valencia ('91-94) for 10th in program history.
The program's all-time top 10 scoring list has been unchanged since Seth Rudolph's career ended in 2012.
A two-time All-Conference forward in his fifth season representing the Buff and Blue, Haynes Brown has 53 points (24 G, 5 A) across 37 career games. He's 12 points away from cracking the program's all-time top 10 there.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES: Liberty sits at 0-2 after a 1-0 loss at Elon in double-overtime last Monday. The Flames, led by Preseason All-Conference picks Seth Clark, Marko Mitrevski and Malik Smith, were picked third in the Atlantic Sun preseason poll.
UP NEXT: GW is back on The Vern in front of its home fans on Friday, hosting Navy in a 1 p.m. start.
