Internationally-ranked runner and former conference champion joins the Buff & Blue
WASHINGTON - GW track & field head coach Terry Weir has announced the addition of Quamel Prince to the program as an assistant coach.
"We are thrilled to welcome Quamel to our GW track family," Weir said. "Quamel is a passionate and fiery competitor and those attributes have obviously served him well at every level of competition throughout his running career. He will bring that same passion and experience into his coaching, fulfilling an important component as we build our track program."
Prince currently competes professionally for the District Track Club in DC and has competed on the international stage at the World Championships in Qatar in 2019. Ranked as high as 48th in the men's 800m, Prince currently is a top-100 runner worldwide in the distance. He was recently a 800m finalist at the 2021 South American Championship, representing Guyana and finishing fifth overall. He holds multiple national records for Guyana in the Indoor 800m, Indoor 1000m and Outdoor 800m.
Collegiately, the Nashville, Tenn., native enjoyed a star-studded career at Tennessee State. Prince won five Ohio Valley Conference championships during his time with the Tigers, including three indoor 800m titles. As a senior, he won a pair of indoor championships (400m and 800m) and earned a silver medal in the 4x400m relay en route to being named the OVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and Tennessee State Athlete of the Year. He was the conference's Indoor Co-Athlete of the Year in 2015 as well.
Prince qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary on three occasions, all in the outdoor 800m in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He also qualified for the US Track & Field Championships in the 800m in 2017.
Prince, who earned his Bachelor's degree in human performance and sports science from Tennessee State, joins Samantha Nadel as new hires for the program this season.
