Amigun scored first career goal at Duquesne
PITTSBURGH - Demi Amigun staked GW men's soccer to an early lead on Saturday night, but Duquesne rallied to take a 3-1 win in the Atlantic 10 opener for both sides at Rooney Field.
Amigun's first career goal started the scoring in the 15th minute before the Dukes equalized late in the opening half and then scored twice after halftime to secure the home victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 15th Minute: Tom Cooklin sent a ball into the box that was headed out by a Duquesne defender to Amigun, who buried a one-time shot from the right side to put the Buff and Blue on top. (GW 1, Duquesne 0)
- 33rd Minute: After Ryan Landry's shot hit the crossbar, Logan Muck collected the rebound and finished from close range to tie the score. (GW 1, Duquesne 1)
- 49th Minute: Ryan Goodhew ran onto a bouncing ball and blasted a shot from the top of the 18-yard box just under the crossbar to break the tie. (Duquesne 2, GW 1)
- 71st Minute: Zach Mowka finished a cross from Landry to extend the Dukes' advantage. (Duquesne 3, GW 1)
NOTEWORTHY
- Making his second consecutive start, Amigun picked up his first career goal on his first shot of the season. The sophomore forward became the sixth member of the Buff and Blue to score this fall.
- Amigun was responsible for two of GW's three shots on goal vs. the Dukes with Tim Neumann also putting a shot on target.
- Duquesne held a 12-9 edge in total shots.
- Justin Grady matched a season high with four saves in the GW net.
- GW equaled a season high with eight corner kicks, matching its total from Tuesday at William & Mary.
