Men's Soccer Stumbles vs. Navy

WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer came up short vs. Navy on Friday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Midshipmen on home turf at the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Buff and Blue fell behind Navy on Jason Aoyama's goal in the 17th minute and could never find the equalizer in their first home setback after a pair of victories at The Vern to start the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 17th Minute: A GW defender managed to head away a Navy corner kick, but Aoyama ran on to the loose ball and blasted a terrific shot from just outside the 18-yard line into the top left corner of the net. (Navy 1, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY
- After being outshot 7-1 in the opening half, GW turned up the pressure after the intermission. The Buff and Blue recorded eight shots over the final 45 minutes, including three tries on goal, all of them via headers, over the final 4:03.
- Liam Emson finished with a pair of shots on goal, while Grant Barrientos and Sean Vaghedi also recorded tries on target.
- Navy goalkeeper Tyler Fahning made four saves to record the shutout, while Justin Grady was credited with three stops on the day in the GW net.
- Barrientos kept the Midshipmen from adding on in the 63rd minute when he was on the goal line and headed away a chip from Jacob Williams that appeared ticketed for the net.
UP NEXT: GW plays its first of four straight road games on Tuesday, visiting William & Mary for a 7 p.m. kickoff in its final tune-up before Atlantic 10 play.
