Buff & Blue look to improve to 2-0
GW men's soccer is back in action Monday at Howard, aiming to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
The Buff and Blue are set to face the crosstown Bison in a 5 p.m. kickoff at Greene Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT: GW rolled to a 4-0 victory in Thursday's season opener vs. VMI before an enthusiastic crowd on the Mount Vernon Campus. Oscar Haynes Brown scored twice, including a tally 66 seconds into the season, and Nico Krueger and Carlyle Smart also found the net for the Buff and Blue, who won their opener for the third time in the past four seasons.
GW keeper Justin Grady made one save to notch his ninth career clean sheet.
FANTASTIC FIRST IMPRESSION: A two-time All-Conference forward, Haynes Brown has a knack for getting his season off to a strong start. The graduate student from London, England, has scored in all four home openers in which he's played over the course of his career, totaling seven goals in those contests. He now has 24 goals and 53 points across 35 career games.
Haynes Brown in GW home openers
Sept. 5, 2017 - One goal in 2-1 loss to William & Mary
Aug. 24, 2018 - Three goals in 3-2 win over Stony Brook
Feb. 20, 2021 - Golden goal in 1-0 OT win over Mount St. Mary's
Aug. 26, 2021 - Two goals in 4-0 win over VMI
FANTASTIC FIRST IMPRESSION II: A first-year forward from Philadelphia, Krueger headed home a cross from Ryan Cedeno in the 32nd minute for his first career goal in his collegiate debut. He came off the bench vs. VMI and became the program's first rookie to score in a season opener since Luke Wildy scored twice vs. Georgetown on Aug. 25, 2006.
SCOUTING THE BISON: Howard opened its season on Friday night at Monmouth, battling the Hawks to a 3-3 draw. Duncan Dunkwu scored all three goals for the Bison, who were picked at the bottom of the NEC preseason poll ahead of their first season competing in the conference.
UP NEXT: GW hits the road again next Friday to make the trip to Columbia for a 1 p.m. start before returning home to host Liberty in a midweek matchup on Sept. 7.
