Virtual Georgey Awards Delight, Entertain GW Student-Athletes, Coaches and Staff

The 9th annual Georgey Awards were conducted last night in a celebration like no other Georgeys before it. After a year that saw the commitment and determination of the Buff and Blue put to the test time and time again, GW Athletics' demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt was on display once again as the awards show went virtual.

Hosted by Dylan Arzoni (men's swimming & diving), Ryan Cedeno (men's soccer), Bailey Hoglin (women's rowing) and Mayowa Taiwo (women's basketball), the show honored the accomplishments of GW's 27 teams and nearly 500 student-athletes in competition, the classroom and the community.

Awards and MVPs were bestowed throughout the ceremony, including:

Rookies of the Year: Karol Mlynarczyk (men's swimming and diving) and Kendall Whitman (gymnastics)
Raise High our Community Student-Athlete (most community service): Olivia Cantrell (women's rowing)
Raise High our Community Team: Women's rowing
Staff Appreciation Award: James Hellekjaer (educational support)
Colonials Cup (most supportive to their fellow students): Men's rowing
DCR (Determination, Commitment, Respect) Teammate Award: Kathryn Nohilly (women's cross country and track) and Steve DiTomaso (baseball)
Fan of the Year: Murat Siyam (posthumously)
Raise High Donor of the Year: Joe and Leslie Barmakian
Academic Teams of the Year: Gymnastics (3.88 team GPA) and golf (3.71 GPA)
Scholar Athletes of the Year: Olivia Cantrell (3.95 GPA), and Gabriele Simonti (3.98 GPA, men's water polo)
Moment of the Year: Men's swimming breaking the A-10's 400 medley relay record
Female Athlete of the Year: Jenna Cone (softball)
Male Athlete of the Year: Emils Pone (men's swimming and diving)
Red Auerbach Award for well-rounded excellence: Faith Weber (softball) and Sandro Weber (men's soccer)
Team of the Year: Men's swimming & diving
