On Wednesday, April 7, the George Washington University hosted a university-wide day of giving as an opportunity for the community to come together to drive philanthropic support to GW.
The GW Athletics community of students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and friends, helped achieve and surpass our goals. Thanks to our donors' support, we have fostered new ways to help support our student-athletes. The community rallied early on to achieve its initial goal of 200 donors, unlocking a $10,000 challenge gift from Athletics Advisory Council Chairwoman, Michelle Rubin, ESIA BA '91. This led to a second challenge gift from Michelle of $5,000 after exceeding 300 donors. At the end of the day, the GW Athletics community came through with a total of more than 440 donors contributing more than $57,000 in support of GW Athletics.Â
"GW Giving Day was a total team effort to achieve this many donors supporting our student-athletes in one day. Thank you for the generosity of all who contributed, and especially the leadership of our Athletic Council Chair Michelle Rubin, ESIA '91," said GW Athletics Director Tanya Vogel. "As we continue to celebrate the university's bicentennial, the incredible support shown on Giving Day clearly illustrates our GW Athletics' values of Determination, Commitment and Respect."
The generosity of our donors will have a true and lasting impact to further our student-athletes and athletics teams by providing academic resources, sports medicine enhancement, leadership programming, support for fifth-year student-athletes, nutrition support, COVID testing and mental wellness services that are essential for a thriving and winning athletics program.Â
