George Washington Checks In at Four Percent Higher Than the NCAA Average
The NCAA publicly announced the Graduation Success Rate of all Division I institutions today, with George Washington student-athletes achieving a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 94, four percent higher than the NCAA Division I average of 90.
GW's men's and women's cross country and track, golf, gymnastics, women's soccer, women's tennis and men's water polo programs all achieved a perfect 100 score.
"At GW our North Star guides us towards providing the best-possible student-athlete experience and post-graduation outcomes," said Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. "Educating and supporting our student-athletes through Commencement while equipping them with the skills to positively impact the world are our highest priorities. These impressive GSR outcomes are proof positive of the discipline and excellence of our students, and a testament to our coaches and staff for their efforts in making student success a reality at GW."
The NCAA developed the Division I Graduation Success Rate in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflected the mobility among all college students today, as the Graduation Success Rate accounts for the academic outcomes of student-athletes who transfer from one institution to another. This GSR data is based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education which includes all scholarship student-athletes across the country who entered college from 2011-2012 through 2014-2015.
The graduation rate is based on a comparison of the number of students who entered college and the number of those who graduated within six years. The GSR provides information for student-athletes who received athletics aid for any period of time during their first year.
