Battle against the Dukes gets underway Thursday night at 7 p.m.
WASHINGTON- George Washington women's basketball starts off the month of December with a Thursday night battle against James Madison. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m., with live coverage on NBC Sports Washington Plus and ESPN+.
SAN JUAN SUCCESS:
Despite a 1-1 split during their holiday weekend in Puerto Rico, GW registered some of its best stats of the year during its two games at the San Juan Shootout. Offensively, the Buff & Blue put together their two best three-point shooting games of the year against UT Martin and Florida, shooting 34 percent from three against the Skyhawks and 40 percent from downtown against the Gators. Individually, both Sierra Bell and Faith Blethen put together season-high scoring performances during GW's two games.
On the defensive side of the ball, GW's Black Friday contest against UT Martin featured the Colonial defense on full display, as the team limited the Skyhawks to just 37 points, which was a new season low for a GW opponent.
WELCOME BACK NYA:
When GW returns to the Smith Center on Thursday night, junior Nya Lok will be ready to suit up in front of the Buff & Blue faithful for the first time this year. Lok made her season debut last Friday against UT Martin after missing the first five games of the season due to injury. In her first two games against the Skyhawks and Florida, Lok averaged just over 12 minutes while scoring four points and hauling in five rebounds.
DETAILS ON THE DUKES:
JMU entered the 2021-22 season with lofty expectations in the Colonial Athletic Association, having been picked third in the preseason conference poll.
Through the first six games of the year, the Dukes have broken even and stand at 3-3. They lost their last contest at Buffalo, 62-45, but prior to that JMU scored over 77 points in back-to-back wins against Hampton and North Carolina Central. Roster wise, the Dukes rely heavily on the talents of junior Kiki Jefferson, an all-conference first team selection who is currently averaging 19.5 points.
