Former Buff & Blue standout returns as graduate assistant
WASHINGTON - Former GW softball standout Faith Weber has returned to the program as a graduate assistant coach, Head Coach Chrissy Schoonmaker announced Tuesday.
The New Egypt, N.J., native concluded a terrific five-year run as a member of the Buff and Blue last spring, garnering All-Conference and All-Region honors as a graduate student on the team's historic run to the Atlantic 10 title and its first NCAA Tournament berth.
Weber takes on a coaching role as part of Schoonmaker's staff as she concludes work on her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology through the Milken Institute School of Public Health.
"We are thrilled to add Faith Weber to our coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach," Schoonmaker said. "Faith had an incredible career here at GW as a student-athlete, and she is eager to learn the other side of the game as a coach. Her love for GW, the softball program and the game is infectious, and she is undoubtedly an asset to this program. This is a full circle moment for Faith, and we are excited to see her begin her coaching journey in the Buff and Blue."
Weber saw action in 172 games with the Buff and Blue from 2017-21, ultimately developing into one of the Atlantic 10's top two-way performers to mirror the program's rise within the conference. She saved her best for last, putting up career-best statistics in every major pitching and hitting category as a graduate student to earn recognition on the A-10 All-Conference Second Team and NFCA All-Region Second Team.
In the circle, Weber compiled a 14-1 record with a 2.22 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings, and she slashed .345/.417/.691 with 13 home runs and 44 RBIs to boost the Buff and Blue's nationally-ranked offense.
For her career, Weber finished with 31 victories and 228 strikeouts across 315 2/3 innings while hitting .295 with 34 extra-base hits and 75 RBIs.
Along the way, Weber embodied excellence in the classroom and the community. She was honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-American and received the GW Athletics Red Auerbach Award last May in recognition of her all-around contributions.
"I am so pumped and grateful for this opportunity to work with the team and support them en route to another A-10 championship!" said Weber, who earned her undergraduate degree in Public Health in 2020. "GW softball has been my home for the past five years, and I feel blessed to be back in a new role. I am looking forward to learning from our awesome coaching staff on the other side of the game and finding joy in each day of this new journey."
