Buff and Blue lauded for fall academic success
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Despite the continued challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic, George Washington swimming and diving maintained its academic excellence during the fall semester, garnering College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors.
The GW women were lauded after posting a 3.65 cumulative GPA for the semester, while the men totaled a combined mark of 3.37 to earn recognition. It's the sixth consecutive semester, and 18th time in the past 20 semesters, that both teams landed the award, which was presented by the CSCAA to collegiate squads across the nation Tuesday for achieving a combined GPA of 3.0 or better in the fall.
Dylan Arzoni, Morgan Birdy, Brendan Conley and Emils Pone led the way for the Buff and Blue in earning perfect 4.0 GPAs for the fall. In total, 39 members of the program (22 women and 17 men) closed the semester with a 3.5 GPA or better, and 48 will be honored on the GW Athletics Academic Dean's List (3.00+).
"I continue to be impressed with the resolve and adaptability shown by our student-athletes over the past 10 months, especially in the classroom," GW Head Coach Brian Thomas said. "I think there's an assumption that online learning is a bit easier, but this semester proved otherwise with a sharp increase in workload for our students.
"I'm proud of the way they responded and were able to thrive given the difficult circumstances. I also credit Danya Ellman and our entire academic advisement team for their tireless support of the student-athletes."
