Colonials honored following record academic semester
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Following a record semester for academic achievement, 258 GW student-athletes have been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2019-20 academic year, the league announced Tuesday.
GW Athletics combined to post a GPA of 3.62 for the spring semester, a record figure showcasing the group's resilience after classes were moved online in March due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Every team in the department posted better than a 3.30 combined GPA for the semester, led by a 3.80 mark from men's tennis.
The standout spring resulted in an impressive showing on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. To be selected, a student-athlete in a conference-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the 2019-2020 academic year.
A total of 3,761 student-athletes from the A-10's 14 schools were honored, smashing last year's previous record 3,290.
For the Buff and Blue, women's rowing led the way with 29 honorees with women's swimming and diving (28), baseball (27) and lacrosse (27) close behind.
