Colonials head back out on the road to face William & Mary on Sunday
WASHINGTON – On a sunny afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington lacrosse team dropped a 21-6 decision to Georgetown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hoyas came out hot from the jump, opening their afternoon with six straight strikes. GW was finally able to get on the board at the 15:56 mark when Morgan McDonnell found Maddy O'Brien in the pocket, but Georgetown responded with a pair of goals to lead 8-1 with 9:43 to play in the half. The Buff and Blue fired back with a trio of tallies, but the Hoyas closed the half with three more goals to go into the break with an 11-4 advantage.
Georgetown continued its momentum in the game's second stanza with nine straight goals before GW found the back of the net for the first time in the second half with a strike from McDonnell at the 5:30 mark. The Colonials added one more goal to their total with a tally from Christine Weber, but the Hoyas finished the day on top, 21-6.
NOTEWORHTY
• McDonnell paced the squad with three points (2g, 1a) against Georgetown. The senior attacker has totaled seven points over the past two games and ranks first on the team with 14 points this season.
• Lambert also finished the day with a pair of tallies while Weber and O'Brien registered one apiece.
• Catie Perkins snagged a team-high four draw controls while Lambert followed closely behind with three.
• The Hoyas held advantages in shots (45-20), ground balls (18-9) and draw controls (19-10).
• Keeper Megan Patrick made 18 saves between the pipes.
