
Women's Water Polo Looks to Extend Streak

Colonials try to continue three-game winning streak at Princeton Invitational
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW evened its record at 4-4 with three straight wins to close the Bucknell Invitational. The Colonials defeated Salem University, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Gannon to clinch a winning weekend at Kinney Natatorium.
Alana Ponce was named CWPA Player of the Week for the second time in her career after piling up 13 goals and six assists with five field blocks, five steals and seven ejections drawn over four games.
Goalkeeper Mackenzie Matheny earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for her work between the pipes. The first-year from Australia compiled a .522 save percentage with 35 stops vs. 32 goals allowed. She made exactly nine saves in all three victories on the weekend.
Hannah Hathaway provided a spark in the finale vs. Gannon by scoring a career-high four goals in a 12-5 victory. The junior from California also posted six assists on the weekend and now leads the squad with 11 helpers on the season.
FITTING IN FINE: Marina Daroca Bazán has emerged as GW's second-leading scorer in the early going of her first season in Buff and Blue. The graduate student from Spain has posted 18 points via 10 goals and eight assists, plus five steals and four ejections drawn. She has three multi-goal games thus far, highlighted by a three-score performance in last Saturday's 12-10 win over Salem.
Daroca Bazán joined the Colonials in the fall after posting 48 goals and 36 assists over three seasons at Whittier College.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:Â LIU sits at 2-6 after dropping three of four games at the Bucknell Invitational.
Wagner (7-4) vaulted three spots in the national rankings after a perfect 4-0 weekend at Bucknell, including a win over then-No. 15 Harvard.
St. Francis Brooklyn's 1-6 start includes a 12-6 loss to GW on Feb. 2 in Philadelphia. Ponce netted five goals and Allison DeCicco added three scores as the Colonials cruised past the Terriers.
COMING UP:Â GW takes a break next weekend before kicking off CWPA play in Foggy Bottom with a visit from No. 17 Princeton. It will be a noon start at Smith Center Pool with Senior Day festivities beginning at 11:45 a.m.
