WASHINGTON — GW men's basketball is looking to snap a three-game losing skid on Saturday when it hosts Duquesne at the Smith Center at 4 p.m. Fans can follow along on ESPN+ and the TuneIn app.
LAST TIME OUT: First-year forward Jamison Battle finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but GW couldn't complete the late comeback in a 63-58 loss to Saint Louis on Wednesday evening. Armel Potter scored all of his 17 points in the final frame with nine of those in the last 3:36 of play. The Colonials battled throughout the contest after trailing by 16 in the first half. GW nearly stole the road win, as with six seconds left Potter hit his third layup in the game's late stages to draw within three, but Javonte Perkins hit two free throws to end the rally.
SCOUTING DUQUESNE: The Dukes are one of five undefeated teams in Atlantic 10 games this year. At 3-0, Duquesne has already defeated Saint Louis, Davidson and Saint Joseph's by a scoring margin of +13.0 points.
Duquesne is coming off a non-conference season to remember winning its first 10 games — the school's best start since 1953-54 — before bowing out to UAB and Marshall in the final out-of-conference games.
Wednesday's contest at Saint Joseph's marked the first true road game for the Dukes, who have played in three neutral-site events, and are playing all home games off-campus because of the season-long renovation of the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
Marcus Weathers leads the Dukes in points (14.4), rebounds (7.9) and steals (20).
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time season series, 51-32, with the Dukes claiming back-to-back series sweeps in 2018 and 2019. GW is 28-9 all-time against Duquesne in D.C.
POTTER'S SECOND HALF BURST: Armel Potter tied his season-high with 17 second-half points against Saint Louis. Potter also had 17 of his 19 points in the final frame against Delaware (Dec. 7).
