Colonials fell 1-0 in non-conference contest
VILLANOVA, Pa. - GW men's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Villanova on Tuesday at Higgins Soccer Complex.
Evan Vare's 71st-minute goal proved to be the difference, pushing the Wildcats past the Colonials in the non-conference contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 71st Minute: The ball popped out of a scrum at the top of the 18-yard box to Vare, who drilled a a low shot inside the right post for what turned out to be the game's lone goal. (Villanova 1, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY
- The GW defense limited Villanova to three shots on goal. Noah Lubin earned his second straight start in the Colonials' net and totaled two saves.
- After being held without a shot on goal over the opening 45 minutes, GW generated a pair of tries on target after halftime.
- GW's nine shots came from eight different Colonials. Liam Emson (52nd minute) and Matt Sipowicz (84th minute) were responsible for the shots on goal.
- It was the first-ever meeting between GW and Villanova.
