Max Holdsworth and Sandro Weber scored for the Colonials
WASHINGTON - First-half goals from Max Holdsworth and Sandro Weber helped GW men's soccer earn a 2-0 victory over Brown on Saturday in its home debut on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Colonials (2-2-1) jumped out quickly on the Bears (1-2) with two scores in the opening 24 minutes and rolled to their second straight victory. Holdsworth put the home team in front with a fourth-minute penalty kick before Weber drilled home a cross from Haukur Hilmarsson to build the advantage.
The GW defense posted its third clean sheet in five games this season with Justin Grady stopping all three shots he faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 4th Minute: Weber earned the early penalty kick when he was taken down by the Brown keeper in the box. Holdsworth proceeded to bury the shot to put the Colonials in front. (GW 1, Brown 0)
- 24th Minute: GW took advantage of a quick restart off a foul deep in Brown's defensive zone. Holdsworth fed Hilmarsson, whose cross from the left side found Weber near the opposite post for the goal. (GW 2, Brown 0)

- GW's defense held Brown without a shot on goal until the 66th minute. Grady ended up stopping two more shots down the stretch to earn his second consecutive shutout and third overall.
