Sandro Weber tallied his third goal in as many games
WASHINGTON - Sandro Weber tallied his third goal in as many games, but GW men's soccer fell to UMBC, 4-1, on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Retrievers scored two goals in each half to halt the Colonials' two-game winning streak.
Weber's strike in the 31st minute, assisted by Liam Emson and Fares Tello, pulled the Buff and Blue within 2-1, but the visitors pulled away thanks to a pair of second-half scores.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 19th Minute: Julian Conze's long cross found Dadi Ingason for the game's first goal. (UMBC 1, GW 0)
- 22nd Minute: Just three minutes later, the Retrievers added on with Ryan Becher heading home a corner kick from Colin Weyant. (UMBC 2, GW 0)
- 31st Minute: Off a throw-in, Weber got free behind the defense and beat the keeper from close range to halve GW's deficit. (UMBC 2, GW 1)
- 63rd Minute: Weyent connected with Becher off a corner kick again. A loose ball in the box found Becher's feet for his second score. (UMBC 3, GW 1)
- 76th Minute: Alejandro Arbelaez finished the scoring on a long-range shot after a couple of quick passes from Ingason and Tre Pulliam. (UMBC 4, GW 1)
NOTEWORTHY
- With three goals on the season, Weber is tied for the Atlantic 10 lead. He accounted for six of GW's 13 shots vs. UMBC.
- Emson and Tello both picked up their first career points.
- Justin Grady made five saves in net for the Colonials.
