Colonials look to have peak performance on Saturday
Live Results
ON THE LINE: The George Washington women's rowing team takes to the Cooper River in Pennsauken, New Jersey, on Saturday to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
RECORD REVIEW: Last spring the Colonials went four-for-four in medal performances for the second straight season to finish the day with its best performance in program history.
GW has totaled 23 first place boat finishes in the finals over its 23 seasons in the conference. The 2018 performance is the first time in program history that all entries have medaled since the Atlantic 10 moved to a new scoring format in 2011.
A FRESH START: Under the leadership of a new coaching staff, the team has set its sights on the championship regatta since the fall.
Last spring, the varsity eight placed third with a time of (6:41.311) in the Grand Final against top conference competition between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The gap between third place and UMass's second place finish was only 1.073.
THE RUNDOWN: Morning heats will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday with two heats each for the Varsity 4 (8:00, 8:20), 2V8 (8:40, 9:00), V8 (9:20, 9:40).
The top three crews from each heat will advance to the Grand Final, with the remaining boats going to the Petite Final, where a points system will be used to determine the final standings. The Petite and Grand Finals will launch at 10:30 a.m.
