Colonials wrapped weekend with loss to Bison
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Juliette Belanger netted a team-high four goals, but George Washington women's water polo fell to No. 23 Bucknell, 11-7, in Collegiate Water Polo Association action on Sunday morning at Harvard's Blodgett Pool.
The Colonials (5-10, 0-3 CWPA) stayed within striking distance of the nationally-ranked Bison most of the way. They edged within 6-3 on Belanger's score with 6:11 left in the third quarter before the Bison responded with five of the next six goals to take control.
Belanger continued a strong offensive weekend after scoring a team-high three goals on Saturday vs. Harvard. The first-year from Canada now has 30 goals on the season to rank second among Colonials.
Katherine Atherton scored twice for the second multi-goal game of her career with Emma Shaffer also finding the net for the Buff and Blue.
Jaleh Moaddeli sparked the offense with a career-high four assists and also helped out defensively with a pair of steals.
UP NEXT: GW closes the regular season next weekend with three more CWPA contests at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium. The Colonials are set for a doubleheader Saturday vs. Brown and St. Francis (Pa.) before facing No. 6 Michigan on Sunday.
