Colonials battled the nationally ranked Crimson on Saturday
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - GW women's water polo continued its Collegiate Water Polo Association slate Saturday, falling at No. 14 Harvard, 10-7.
The Colonials hung tough against the nationally-ranked Crimson thanks to a strong defensive effort and a team-high three goals from Juliette Belanger before coming up short at Blodgett Pool.
GW (5-9, 0-2 CWPA) led 1-0 for most of the opening quarter and jumped back in front, 3-2, on Belanger's goal with 3:21 left in the first half.
From there, Harvard ran off three straight goals to close the half and then scored the first goal after the break to extend the lead to 6-3.
GW edged back to within 7-5 on a goal by Katherine Atherton with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter, but that was as close as the Colonials would get down the stretch.
Jaleh Moaddeli scored twice and also tallied a team-high four steals for the Buff and Blue, while Atherton and Hayden Carlson also found the net vs. Harvard.
Alana Ponce dished out a pair of assists, grabbed three steals and also led the visitors with four ejections drawn.
UP NEXT: GW wraps its stay at Harvard on Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. start vs. No. 23 Bucknell. The Colonials close the regular season next weekend with three more CWPA matchups at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.
