Men’s Rowing Heads to Cornell for Spring Debut

Colonials to race against pair of Ivy League teams
AT THE LAUNCH: The George Washington men's rowing team is set to open its 2019 spring campaign on Saturday when it heads to Ithaca, N.Y. to race No. 12 Cornell and No. 3 Harvard.
GW will send four boats to the event and race against the duo of top-15 teams for the sixth straight season.
TRANSITIONING TIME: The winter months in Foggy Bottom were all but quiet. Rowers were off the water but training in the Smith Center. Winter and spring training trips were the only interruptions to logging meters on erg machines. Recently, water training has resumed on GW territory with the installation of new docks at Thompson Boat Center.
WHERE WE LEFT OFF: The Colonials are ready to hit the water against a familiar slate of competition. GW, Cornell, and Harvard last met at the IRA Championship Regatta in June held at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Harvard's MV8 placed fourth in the grand final with a time of 6:10.717.
Following the grand final, progressively hazardous conditions created strong winds and choppy water conditions. Despite the unfavorable conditions, boats continued to race. In the C final, Cornell clocked 6:58.23 to win the heat, while GW's V8 finished sixth with a time of 7:20.15. GW was the last boat to cross the finish line before the rest of the day of racing was canceled.
STAY TUNED: The Colonials will return to the District for continued training and preparation for the 31st GW Invitational held next week on April 12-13.
