Women's Water Polo Falls at CWPA Championship

Alana Ponce tallied five points vs. St. Francis (Pa.)
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Alana Ponce tallied three goals and two assists on Saturday at the CWPA Championship, but George Washington women's water polo came up short in an 11-7 setback vs. St. Francis (Pa.) at Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Neither team led by more than a goal in a back-and-forth first half before St. Francis found separation down the stretch. GW was within 8-7 on Kira Bruno's goal with 7:01 remaining, but the Red Flash pulled away from there by scoring the game's final three goals.
An All-CWPA First Team pick, Ponce continued her strong sophomore campaign, posting a steal, a field block and an ejection drawn in addition to her team-high five points.
Bruno scored twice for the Colonials with Juliette Belanger and Jaleh Moaddeli also finding the net.
GW closes the CWPA Championship and its season Sunday with a 9 a.m. start against host Brown.
