Colonials came up short in CWPA opener
PRINCETON, N.J. - George Washington women's water polo ran out of steam in its Collegiate Water Polo Association opener Saturday, falling 14-8 at No. 15 Princeton.
Jaleh Moaddeli and Kira Bruno scored two goals apiece for the Colonials, who dropped to 3-4 overall.
GW battled its nationally-ranked hosts throughout the first half at DeNunzio Pool, pulling within 5-4 on Kira Bruno's goal with 2:15 left before intermission.
From there, Princeton pulled away with seven of the next eight goals. The Tigers scored six times in the third quarter, taking their largest lead of the day at 12-5 on Laura Larkin's goal with 17 seconds left in the period.
Alana Ponce posted a goal, an assist and a team-high three ejections drawn. Juliette Belanger, Emma Shaffer and Hayden Carlson also recorded goals for the Colonials.
Samantha Runyon matched her season high with 10 stops in net.
UP NEXT:Â GW heads to California for spring break with three games next week. The trip begins with a contest at Cal State East Bay on Tuesday.
