Lacrosse Falls in A-10 Opener

Colonials face Davidson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
PHILADELPHIA – On a cold and rainy afternoon at McCarthy Stadium, the George Washington lacrosse team opened Atlantic 10 action with a 13-7 setback at La Salle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GW was the first to strike with Aidan Cage finding the back of the net just 31 seconds into the game. The Explorers responded with a goal of their own five minutes later, before Christine Weber was able to convert from the free position to give the Colonials the 2-1 edge at the 23:57 mark. La Salle began to press on attack, scoring a trio of tallies to go up 4-2 with 16:55 to play. Catie Perkins added to the Colonials offensive effort with a goal at the 3:02 mark, but the Explorers found the back of the net twice more to go into the break with the 6-3 advantage.
The Explorers went on to score seven more goals in the game's second stanza, while holding the Colonials to four, to pull away with the 13-7 victory.
NOTEWORTHY
• Perkins led the Buff and Blue offensively with a pair of goals. Cage, Weber, Ioanna Mantzouratos, Abby Carlin, and Katie Quinn also found the back of the net in today's A-10 opener.
• Sophomore keeper Jenna Oler made seven saves in 50:47 of play, while Alexa Solomon made her first appearance for the Colonials this season with one save in 9:13 of action.
• Carlin paced the squad off the draw with three, Perkins and Quinn led the team with two ground balls each and Caroline Esmond had a team-high two caused turnovers.
