Colonials to honor co-captains in Senior Day celebration
SERVING FIRST: The No.16 George Washington men's squash team will face No. 11 Drexel in its final match of the season on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts in the Lerner Health and Wellness Center.
LAST TIME OUT: The Buff and Blue posted a third place finish at the first-ever Mid-Atlantic Squash Championship over the weekend. The Colonials earned a pair of victories over No. 19 MIT and No. 25 Dickinson, but were just edged by No. 9 Virginia and No. 15 Franklin and Marshall in 5-4 decisions.
SENIOR SALUTE: Senior co-captains Moudy Abdel-Maksoud and Julian Jervis will be honored in a ceremony prior to match play on Saturday.
Abdel-Maksoud has etched his name into the record books as one of the most successful student-athletes in program history. The Cairo, Egypt, native is currently tied for third on GW's career singles victories list with 50 wins and ranks eighth on the men's single season victories list with 16 wins in his first season in the Buff and Blue. As a first-year in 2015-16, Abdel-Maksoud won the Molloy Cup at CSA Individual Nationals, and as a junior, went on to earn CSA Second-Team All American honors. As senior co-captain, he has competed primarily at the No. 1 position and has posted notable victories in matches against Dartmouth, Yale, Pennsylvania, and Princeton.
Jervis joined the Colonials as a junior after playing two seasons at St. Lawrence. In his first season in the Buff and Blue, Jervis won the deciding match for GW at No. 7 in its victory over Yale to win the Hoehn Cup (B Division) at Nationals. In just two seasons, the Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, native has wracked up 21 victories, and as a senior co-captain, has recorded eight, including wins against competitors from Navy, St. Lawrence, Cornell, and Drexel.
