Khan is presented as a finalist for the Skillman Award and Foo Yuk Han is named a finalist for the Betty Richey Award
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Salim Khan and Zoe Foo Yuk Han have been selected as finalists for the two most prestigious awards given by the College Squash Association (CSA). The honors mark the first time in GW squash history that both the men's and women's programs have been represented.
Voted on by CSA coaches, Khan is among the final three for the Skillman Award, the top honor given each year to a senior men's squash student-athlete who has portrayed exceptional sportsmanship and skill during his career.
The nominees are evaluated based on on-court poise and demeanor, skill level, team play, leadership and cooperation with players, coaches and tournament officials.
In his first two years at GW, Khan helped the team post program-best finishes. In his junior season, Khan was named team captain and rounded out the season leading the team in victories and earned team MVP honors after reaching a total of 47 career wins.
Also voted on by CSA coaches, Foo has earned recognition as a finalist for the Betty Richey Award. The Richey Award is the most prestigious individual honor given to a current women's squash student-athlete. Top candidates are those who best showcase their love and devotion to the game, a sense of fairness and excellence in play and leadership.
Foo is one of the most prolific women's squash players to ever compete at George Washington. Foo earned All-American Second Team honors in her first and second year at GW before earning First Team status last season. Foo's accomplishments mark the first time in GW women's squash history that an athlete has been selected as an All-American three times.
"I am so proud of Salim and Zoe for being voted as finalists for the Skillman and Richey Awards, the highest honors in men's and women's college squash," Head Coach Anderson Good said.
"Salim is the first GW men's squash player ever named a finalist for the Skillman Award and Zoe is the third GW women's squash player ever nominated for the Richey Award (Anna Gabriella Porras, 2016/Finalist, and Breanne Flynn, 2017/Winner)," said Good.
"Salim and Zoe have been great leaders within our program, and both have incredible work ethics that have put them in a position to be given the honor of these nominations. I am so proud of both of them for being such terrific representatives of our program in the College Squash Association. There are not two more deserving people than these two."
The winners of both awards will be announced during the CSA's live College Squash Awards Show on March 25 at 7 p.m. The show will be streamed live on CSA's Facebook and YouTube channels.
