Student-Athletes' Choice of Professor of the Year Announced
During halftime of the women's basketball game against Duquesne on Wednesday night, GW's Athletic Academic Dean's List members and the student athletes' choice for Professor of the Year were honored.
In order to be recognized on the Dean's List, student-athletes had to achieve a 3.0 grade point average or higher in either the spring 2018 or fall 2018 semesters. Last semester 67% of GW student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.0 or greater while the Department's cume GPA was 3.13, marking at least the 15th consecutive semester that GW Athletics had a GPA higher than 3.10. 16 GW Athletics teams achieved a GPA above 3.0.Â
Among the student-athletes honored, 18 achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester. Noah Levin (baseball), Haukar Hilmarsson (men's soccer), Nicolas Reeves (men's swimming & diving), Ryan Navarro (men's tennis), Marshall McCraw (sailing), John Umina (sailing), Olivia Cantrell (women's rowing), Miranda DiBiasio (women's cross country and track), Jenna Pressman (women's cross country and track), Brigid Prial (women's cross country and track), Alex Zois (gymnastics), Alexandra Filipkowski (women's soccer), Anna Tapen (women's soccer), Brooke Feldman (women's squash), Haley Hunt (women's squash), Alli Lapps (women's swimming & diving), Miranda Simon (women's swimming & diving) and Sara Grubac (women's tennis) did the deed.Â
Prior to the Dean's List recognitions, the student-athletes' choice for the Professor of the Year was recognized. Each year, student-athletes are asked to submit nominations for their most valued professor, who makes the greatest contribution to the academic success of GW's student-athletes. Once nominations are submitted, GW student-athletes then vote upon five finalists and the student-athletes' choice for Professor of the Year.
Thomas Palaia was named as the student-athletes' choice. Professor Palaia has taught courses in Organizational Sciences.
Â
Dennis Schell (Psychology), Claire Bowes (Exercise and Nutrition Science), James Potepa (Accountancy), and Johan Ferreiera (Marketing) were also named finalists for student-athletes' choice for Professor of the Year.
Additionally on Wednesday night, all GW students from the university's student body were invited to be recognized on floor in a special acknowledgement during the third quarter of play.Â
