The Colonials and Billikens will tip off at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Smith Center
TIPPING OFF: The GW men's basketball team plays its first of two nationally-televised games this week when the Saint Louis Billikens come to Smith Center on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. tip, with CBS Sports Network carrying the game. The Colonials close the week on Saturday at Duquesne in a noon game, which will be televised by NBC Sports Network.
LAST TIME OUT: Maceo Jack matched his career high with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including a career-best 6-of-8 from three, but aside from that, very little went the way of the Buff and Blue in an 89-63 loss at Richmond on Saturday. The Colonials connected on 48 percent from the floor, their second-best mark in A-10 play (48.4 vs. Fordham), but it wasn't nearly enough to match the Spiders who shot 62.3 percent including 56.5 from three (13-of-23).
SERIES HISTORY: The series is tied 9-9 all time after the Billikens won both meetings last season, the first in Saint Louis and the second in the A-10 Tournament in Washington. GW has won six of the seven meetings in Smith Center, the most recent being a 53-46 victory on Jan. 28, 2017.
JUMPING JACK: With his 23-point showing vs. Richmond, Jack matched his career high set back on December 8 vs. Valparaiso and continued a season-long jump in production. The sophomore is now averaging 10.2 points, up from his average of 2.8 as a freshman. He leads the team in made 3-pointers (44) and games hitting multiple triples (15), while he's also GW's most accurate shooter from the charity stripe at a .913 clip (21-23). The Buffalo, New York, native has hit double figures in scoring in 12 of the last 14 games, which is tops on the team in that stretch.
MORE FROM MAZZULLA: While he's been held to eight points over the last two games, Justin Mazzulla has made a sophomore jump similar to his classmate Jack. The Rhode Island native has increased his scoring average from 2.6 as a freshman to 9.7 this season, and his 13 games scoring in double figures are second on the team behind leading scorer DJ Williams. A tri-captain, Mazzulla also leads the team in assists (3.6) and steals (1.2).
TIP-INS: DJ Williams continues to pace GW in scoring (14.2) and double-figure scoring games (17, including seven straight) … the Chicago native is averaging 17.0 points in the last seven games … GW was without Terry Nolan Jr. at Richmond due to an illness … Nolan leads the team in rebounding (5.4) and is averaging 6.9 in league games, including four games with double-figure boards … the 6-foot-2 guard has two double-doubles (at Saint Joseph's and at La Salle) and narrowly missed a third at George Mason (15 points, nine rebounds).
